sugar palm trees dot the temple plain

The sap of the sugar palm is collected in bamboo containers and can be harvested once or twice per day. It can be used to produce sugar (Jaggery) or Toddy (palm wine). Alternatively it is possible to feed farm animals. Fruits can be eaten roasted or raw. The leaves can be used for thatching or to produce mats, baskets and even writing paper. Its black timber is hard and heavy and well suited for construction works.
