tools4fools

Egon Demel was the hero of a cartoon I called 'tools4fools' and used to draw to keep me awake during boring mathematics classes at college. Many moons have passed since then but somehow tools4fools started to become my label and finally the first realized project that saw daylight was the Myanmar blueprint guide.

This was in 2006 after about a year of some serious work and another trip to Asia - after some 16 previous journeys to Asia averaging 7 months per trip during the past 17 years.

A passion for Asia, photography and maps plus a never ending curiosity came handy for completing this book. Interests in art (wish I would have time to restart painting again!) and design were sure helpful too as was some basic knowledge of graphics and layout software which of course much improved during the often painful learning by doing process...

An ice cold beer every now and then (and a few hangovers) added to the enjoyment and often made for a much needed and much deserved brake - albeit I'm probably the only one who thinks I deserved those breaks.

Thanks to all the great people I met during my travels, some of which became long lasting and true friends since then and which make me feel coming home whenever arriving in Asia these days!

Marcus
