from 'Elephants and motos' by RustyCarr (April 2007)

For any elephant fans... Saw working elephants a few miles from Sein Ye. Sein Ye elephant camp is now closed. Apparently all logging completed and that area now waiting to be flooded as part of the new dam/resevoir. To get to the elephants, was 6-7hr trip, from Taungoo, on back of moto with guides ($40 per day). 8-10hrs by car for same trip and approx $120 per day. Probably quicker to do this trip from Pyay instead and poss cheaper as well.

Stayed overnight in tribe village in Bago Yoma (Bago mountain range) area. Best to make this a minimum of 2 days because when you get there the guides then have to spend time locating the elephants. They will not be waiting patiently at the side of a road for Mister Tourist to appear but usually found at the bottom of a steep valley somewhere which is inaccessible to a trusty old moto. So be prepared for hill descending/ascending on foot (open sandals not recommended).
